Animal Crossing Bugs
You can find bugs all over town, at any time of the day or night. To start collecting the creepy critters, though, you must first purchase a net from Nook’s Cranny. Bugs can be even harder to catch than fish, as they respond much more to movement and are much easier to frighten away. Luckily, there are so many bugs in your town that if you lose one there is sure to be another right around the corner.
Buggin’ Out
Make sure you have a net in hand. Some bugs require you to perform a sneak attack, and others require you to run. When you get close enough you must act quickly. With the net equipped, use the touch screen or the A button to catch the insect.
Get the Golden Net
If you catch every bug in the game, Tortimer will reward you with the golden net, which is twice the size of the normal net, making bug-catching twice as easy.
Where the Bugs Roam
It is hard to take five steps in Animal Crossing without bumping into a common bug. Locating the rare ones, however, is a different story. Below you will find out where different types of bugs hang out, including cicadas, grasshoppers and crickets. Now grab your net and start collecting those creepy crawlers!
On the Ground
Watch where you are stepping – there might be a valuable insect under your feet! Grasshoppers and crickets both live on the ground, and they are not easy to catch – you have to run after these quick critters.
On Flowers
Flowers can attract insects like ladybugs or the rare orchid mantis. Brightly coloured blossoms can sometimes camouflage the critters, however, so watch for movement as you pass by.
On Trees
Some bugs, like cicadas, will rest on the tree trunks, just below the leaves. Keep an eye out – they can be difficult to spot, and they require a sneak attack.
Near Lights
Anyone who has ever cleaned a porch light can tell you that bugs are attracted to light. If you are out for a late-night stroll, keep an eye out for insects buzzing around street lamps and outdoor house lights.
In the Air
The most common bugs, such as butterflies and dragonflies, can be found flying in the air. Flying insects require you to chase them – except the mosquito, which will come after you.
Near Water
Like people, insects are drawn to the water during the hot summer months. In June, see if you can spot some rare fireflies near the water after dark.
Bug-Off Tournament
Show off your bug skills in the annual Bug-Off tournament., where you can compete for trophies and rare prizes. See the calendar of events for more information.
